Pallet Wrap and Stretch Film Frequently Asked Questions
What is plastic wrap used for?
Pallet wrapping is a method very commonly used in the warehousing industry for the purpose of keeping pallets neat, tidy and all together. The plastic wrapping is designed to wrap around pallets to stabilize them, securing your goods and keeping them containerized, safe, dry and dust-free.
How do you shrink wrap a pallet correctly?
Depending on whether your shrink wrap is of the hand-stretched or machine-stretched variety, the pallet wrapping process will change. For hand-stretched pallet wrap, you can use the start of your wrap to create a ‘rope’ to secure your wrap to the base of the pallet, then you will need to keep the film taut as you wrap it around the pallet to secure your items. On the other hand, machine-stretched film wrap is designed to be used with a stretch film machine which stretches the film on application to the palletized goods for you. The type of dispenser used stretches the film wrap upon the application, and once applied it will form back to its original shape giving it a tight fit and securing the load.
Does shrink wrapping a pallet make it waterproof?
One of the key benefits of shrink-wrapping a pallet is that it makes it more resistant to damage from water, dust, and changing temperatures during transit. When done correctly it can make pallets entirely waterproof and go a long way in preventing water and wet weather from ruining your goods.
What is best to wrap pallets with?
What is ‘best to wrap your pallets with will depend on the weight of your items and whether your pallets are being stored in a warehouse for example or undergoing transit - this will affect the strength of the plastic film needed. Generally, you’ll find that a machine-wrapped pallet is tauter and therefore more secure than a hand-wrapped one, although that does depend on your individual plastic wrapping skills! Personally, we think that our Shrinkable Pallet Covers are a great choice for top security and maximum protection from tampering, water damage and rips or tears, which makes it an excellent choice for commercial pallet wrapping.
